FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT Soil Science Conference Towards Maximum Land Use and Productivity Conference Post-conference tour |
Introduction
The Malaysian Society of Soil Science (MSSS) will hold the SOILS 2003 Conference, the annual soil science conference, in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 15-16 April 2003 at Kota Bharu, Kelantan. This conference is jointly organised by MSSS (Malaysian Society of Soil Science), MARDI (Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute) and UiTM (Universiti Teknologi MARA). It has always been the Malaysian government policy and incentive that the farmers' income through agriculture be increased through maximisation of land use and productivity. Some soils in Malaysia are not utilised to their potential or utilised inefficiently. Some soils are also left idle due to some physical, chemical or biological limitations. However, current research in Malaysia has shown that Malaysian soils are potentially productive if they are properly treated and managed, but they do require some innovation and high technological inputs. Thus, the SOILS 2003 conference will give emphasis on topics such as land use planning, large-scale crop production, and integration of plantation crops with livestock. Other relevant topics, however, will also be highlighted. This conference will provide an excellent platform for those who are involved in agriculture specifically the soil scientists, planters, and agro-based entrepreneurs to present their new findings, exchange ideas and share experiences on various approaches on farming and soil management.
