Soil Science Conference of Malaysia 2005

The Malaysian Society of Soil Science (MSSS) will hold the SOILS 2005 Conference, the annual soil science conference, in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 12-14 April 2005 in Kedah.

The Malaysian government has been stressing on the importance of the agricultural industry as one of the contributors to the GNP besides ensuring farmers' income through maximisation of land use and productivity. The acreage of suitable and fertile land is decreasing due to the expansion of urban and industrial sectors, leaving behind some marginal and idle land for agriculture. Even though soils from this land have certain physical, chemical and biological limitations, research findings have shown that these soils are potentially productive if they are properly treated and managed.

Thus, the SOILS 2005 conference will give emphasis on topics, such as land use planning, large-scale crop production, agroforestry, and integration of plantation crops with livestock. Other relevant topics, however, will also be highlighted.

This conference will provide an excellent platform for those who are involved in agriculture specifically the soil scientists, planters and agro-based entrepreneurs to present their new findings, exchange ideas and share experiences on various approaches on farming and soil management.
